NFL prospect Khyree Jackson, who tragically died in a car accident on Saturday morning, had shared a poignant final Instagram post just hours before the crash. The 24-year-old cornerback, recently drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, was involved in a fatal collision that also claimed the lives of two friends.
According to police, Jackson, along with driver and high school teammate Hazel and fellow passenger Anthony Lytton Jr., were killed when their speeding car crashed. Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene, while Lytton, who was rushed to the hospital, was also later declared deceased.
Just before the accident, Jackson had posted a series of photos on Instagram, capturing moments from his life, including images from Vikings practice and cheerful snapshots on a beach. One of the images, contrasting "dreamers" with "doers," reflected Jackson’s determined spirit.
Jackson’s football journey began at Fort Scott Community College, and he later played for the Oregon Ducks and the Alabama Crimson Tide. His standout performance in the 2023 season earned him recognition as a top cornerback, leading to his selection in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft.
The Minnesota Vikings expressed their deep sorrow over Jackson's passing. "The news of Khyree Jackson’s death after an overnight car accident breaks our hearts," the team said in a statement. They have extended their support to Jackson's family and offered counseling to players and staff affected by the loss.
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell praised Jackson for his infectious energy and positive personality, emphasizing his potential both on and off the field. "Khyree’s energy spread through our building and team," O’Connell noted. "He was determined to be the best person he could be for his family and those around him."
The accident occurred around 3 a.m. when a Dodge Charger carrying Jackson and his friends was struck by a fast-moving Infiniti. The Charger veered off the road, hitting tree stumps, and the Infiniti also collided with a Chevrolet Impala. The driver and passengers of the Impala, as well as the driver of the Infiniti, were unharmed.
The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
